Women: Yeast infection help? I'm 15.?
Okay first off.
I’m 15, i havent had sex in my life (Save it for marriage), my grandma is taking me to the doctor because i most likely have a yeast infection.
First question: Is it contagious? Like can my family get it by ME just being around them?
Second Question: Is it a STD/STI?
Third Question: Whats the difference between Yeast infection bumps and blisters?
And these are my symptoms.
- My vaginal area is itchy and also red
- I have a white discharge, it doesnt have an odor, almost looks like cottage cheese.
- I have bumps by my vaginal lips that i found today (looks like blisters) Yes i used a mirror, i was scared it was genital herpes, but im not sexually active so thats not it.
- I’m also itchy AROUND my vagina.
- It SOMETIMES burns when i pee, or i have a difficult time, and it gets really annoying.
Just to be sure. Do you think i could have a Yeast infection, or a STD/STI ?
And can you get a STI/STD when your not sexually active?
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION!
What do the doctors do when they see if you have a yeast infection?
Please, do they have to look down there? obviously yes, but what else do they do?
Girls: No i dont wear thongs, YUCK! and that girl who said "ew" its common for females to get it, so you’ll most likely get it in your life time. GOOD LUCK!

Don’t worry. That is a yeast infection for sure, and it is totally fine. I used to get them all the time, and I’m 15 too. At first, I freaked out too because I had no idea what the hell was going on.
They might check down there with a Q-tip or something, but probably not if you just describe it. They’ll probably give you a medication, probably just a pill, and then after you take it, the infection goes away after a day or two.
Thank goodness.. yeast infections are the worst! So uncomfortable. Oh and no, not contagious at all, unless you have sex, but you already covered that.
lol ew
you probably have a yeast infection of some other type of vaginal infection or bladder infection. The doctor will probably look down there and take a swab or something. A yeast infection is not STD/ STI and you can get an STD/STI w/o having sex to the best of my knowledge. plenty of ppl get infections w/o having sex.
do u wear thongs? cuz if u do then it might be from that on the tyra show they were talking about how thongs can give you yeast infections cuz the sting is u know in ur butt crack (lol) and the bacteria if ur dont clean urself right can like go over to ur front and that can cause a yeast infection…
No, yeast infections ARE NOT STDs. You can get OTC meds for it, no need for a doctor appt. What will a doctor say? Well, when I had a pap in June, I apparently had one, all my doctor said was that I had a yeast infection and he told me what to take (and it was OTC meds that he suggested). Yes, it does sound like you have a yeast infection. They are caused by tight clothing, excessive moisture, etc. Wear cotton underwear and eat plain yogurt, it should help prevent them. To get rid of them, just get OTC meds like Monistat.
No it is not contagious in the way you asked. If you were having sex, you could pass it to your partner and your partner could give it right back to you, but it is NOT an STD. A girl can get a yeast infection at any time.
Yeast is a fungus referred to as Candida. Yeast is commonly present on normal human skin and in areas of moisture, such as the mouth and vagina.
Vaginal yeast infections occur when new yeast is introduced into the vaginal area, or when there is an increase in the quantity of yeast already present in the vagina relative to the quantity of normal bacteria.
If you have diabetes mellitus or are pregnant or taking oral contraceptives (birth control pills) or antibiotics you may get an infection. The use of douches or perfumed vaginal hygiene sprays may also increase a woman’s risk of developing a vaginal yeast infection. Improper ventilation – say wearing nylons too long, tight pants, etc, can contribute to getting an infection.
Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching
Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap
Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva
They can give you a pill or cream to insert. You can even buy Monistat over-the-counter to treat it. Use the 7 day treatment.
My guess is that you have bumps because you are itching and irritating the skin. Usually a yeast infection doesn’t include bumps or blisters. A topical yeast infection (on the skin only, no discharge) usually looks more like a scratch or sore.
